Daycare Hydrocelectomy Surgery

A hydrocele is a type of swelling in the scrotum that occurs when fluid collects in the thin sheath surrounding a testicle. While common and often painless, a large hydrocele can cause physical heaviness, swelling, pain, and difficulty performing daily activities. A hydrocelectomy is the surgical procedure performed to excise the hydrocele sac and prevent recurrence.

Surgical Procedure Details

Under regional or local anesthesia, a small incision is made in the scrotum. The fluid surrounding the testicle is safely drained, and the hydrocele sac is either excised or folded back (folded inside-out, known as Lord's plication or Jaboulay's bottle operation). This ensures that fluid cannot accumulate again. The incision is closed with absorbable sutures that do not require removal.

Recovery Protocols

This is a standard daycare procedure, allowing you to walk out and return home the same day. We recommend wearing a scrotal support garment for 1 to 2 weeks post-surgery and avoiding heavy lifting to promote optimal healing and minimize post-operative swelling.
